SFMC Aerospace Callsigns List

Traditionally, Marine aviators each receive a callsign at some point in flight school. It may come from an instructor or a classmate. It may be officially bestowed on the student in an informal “ceremony”, or it may simply be a nickname that “catches on” during training.

Call signs are also a specialized form of nickname assigned as unique identifiers to military communications. Military callsigns originated during World War II, primarily used to identify aircraft and ships through radio communication, with the practice gaining popularity as a way to confuse the enemy by using nicknames instead of pilots’ real names, making identification easier for friendly forces while obscuring personal details from adversaries; this practice later extended to identifying individual military personnel as well.

On this page, you’ll find a listing of SFMC Marines and SFSO Operatives that have been assigned callsigns. To be assigned a callsign in the SFMC, a Marine must have taken and successfully completed PD100, AE100, AE110, AE120, AE201, and AE291 from the MTC. Once a Marine has taken these courses, they may contact the AE director and request a callsign. To earn a call sign with SpecOps, an Operative must have taken and successfully completed Basic Training Grade 10 and the Aerospace and Flight Operations Specialties.

Final Mission indicates a retired callsign for a Marine that has passed away and this callsign is retired.
