State of INFOCOM June 2012
Greetings all,
Please excuse the tardiness of this office, I have been writing this
report the past week now, but with the recent passing of my
mother-in-law and SFMC member, Donna Leavitt its been hard to finish,
but I knew I had to. Right now, I am on a leave of absence from the
GS and my DCO, Joe Brouhard is sitting in the center seat as Acting
CoInfocom. I plan to return, so Joe don’t get too comfortable in “my”
office.
With May behind us and June coming to a close, its time to start
thinking about the IC and beyond. Where do we see Infocom and where
is it going. Is it going anywhere?
One reality is we did not accomplish as much as I wanted to this year.
During my first year in office, I wanted to have a new WordPress site
started and in testing. We had to keep pushing that project off due
to multiple site breakdowns between the main SFMC site & the SFMCA
site.
On a brighter note, Infocom, in coordination with the G3 office, is in
the process of updating the manuals. We have the MFM in progress and
the Policy Manual on deck.
Other up ticks include that we have kept ZenCart updated with new
items as the GS has approved them and my DCO gave the SFMCA site a new
and better form handler for the requesting of courses
For next year, I would like to see…
1) Get the WordPress site back on schedule
2) Get more of the SFMC manuals updated
3) Update and change out the SFMC reporting system (this one was on
the list for the db update, but we shall see).
Let’s now talk about other stuff that’s going on:
PINGDOM:
The Pingdom report for May reported 2 outages. February is still our
best month with no outages. The two outages gave us an uptime of
99.87%. This is
0.10% below last month. We still are still striving for 100% uptime
every month, but its a challenge.
ATTENTION ON DECK: EXTRA (AODE)
Tom has told me he is putting the finishing touches on the next issue.
I am just waiting for it to hit the Infocom DropBox account, so that
I can turn it into a pdf.
NOW HIRING:
Infocom is seeking a CGI/PHP Programmer role. We need a member with
this knowledge to update the code for the Ribbon Rack Builder and
Guidon Builder. If you can help in this area, then please send an
email to michaelj.timko@gmail.com.
COMMUNICATION ACHIEVEMENT AWARD:
The COINFOCOM awards the Communications Achievement Award.
Have you done or do you know somebody who has done something worthy of
this award? Submissions can be made for designing a website or
newsletter, writing a story or song, composing music, making a video.
The sky is really the limit. Some might say my work wasn’t good
enough or significant enough. To that, I say, you won’t know until it
gets submited.
Even though this award has a nominator & nominee section on the awards
form, this award can be a self nomination. Who better to know what
you did, than yourself. If you feel you have accomplished a worthy,
don’t hesitate to nominate yourself.
Well, thats all I got for this month.
Semper Fi.
